The Birth Control Movement

Women’s reproductive rights laws aren’t just Roe v Wade

Women’s reproductive freedom is not just a single court case that you see on the news, there are many landmark cases that lead up to it. The abortion movement could not have started without the push to legalize birth control and access to it.

Griswold v Connecticut

One of the first major cases for birth control, this ruling gave married couples access to birth control.

Eisenstadt v Baird

Another major case in women’s reproductive rights; this case gave single people access to birth control.

Roe v Wade

This was the major ruling that abortion was legal under the Constitution. It was set into motion and made legal by the Supreme Court in 1973. It was overturned in 2022. This led states to enact their abortion bans that remain legal in 2024.
